1st question:
what different materials do MALE gymnasts use for competitive gymnastics? By this I mean things like grips and such.
2nd question:
what do competitive MALE gymnasts wear for competition? *levels 5-10 and elite/college*
:p

Men wear a mens leotard which is called a "singlet" but is in fact a leotard. This is worn with shorts for Vault and Floor exercise and with long lycra stirrup pants called longs for pommel horse, rings, Parallel bars and High bar.

Men usually wear grips but there are two different types of grips. There are High bar grips which have three finger holes and ring grips which have two finger holes. These are worn with sweat bands around the wrists.

For training men may also need straps and gloves for practicing high bar skills and foam upper arm protectors for parallel bars (these are sometimes worn for competition too).

Upper arm bands are not made of foam. Generally just fabric. Occasionally I will use foam on the Pbars or wrap around pads for the little guys to get used to upper arm work.

The thing is now with men's singlets/leotards is you can get a bikini cut (like briefs) or with short leggings. Nothing like having a leo ride up your crotch and crack for lil guys.

If you compete NAIGC instead of NCAA, you can get away with a men's team shirt and shorts for most meets.

Boys in the Junior Olympic Program also wear socks on certain events. Not required and not generally done on floor and vault.
