Don't know if I am posting this in the right place but what age can a child start competing? I see kids competing LvL 4 at 6 on youtube but my gym tells me the age is 7? We live in NY if that makes any difference?

USAG requires that a child have reached their 6th birthday in order to compete L4 and 7th for L5.

hope that helps

My daughter will join the level 4 team when she is 5 and compete level 4 after she turns 6. (USAG) Maybe 7 is what your gym has decided for level 4. I am finding that all gyms tend to do things the way they think works best for them.

It could be your gym starts competing at L5, so thats why they say age 7. L4and below is not required by USAG, but many gyms do have teams for those levels.

The minimum ages to compete are set by USAG and states don't have anything to do with them.

Not sure if the USAG age rule is still the same now, but when dd started L5 the rule was that they had to be 7 by the date of the state meet so she competed L5 at age 6 for the first few meets of that season.
