Thought this group would enjoy this...
So the thing I say the most on Beam is ," look for the end of the beam." I say this to every child ALL the time.... Tonight my daughter( yes unfortunately I have coached my daughter since the beginning of time) is doing cartwheels on beam and sticks 5 in a row. She never sticks cartwheels. You know what she says to me? " Mom.. You know what really helps? When you look for the end of the beam." Like she came up with this tidbit all on her own. I proceeded to whack myself in the head with my notebook.
On the upside she went on to stick 17 beam routines tonight when she usually gets through practice without sticking 1 because of that darn cartwheel and step full turn. So something finally clicked!! It makes me so happy when it does but good gosh could they just listen and apply the first 1200 time we say something? A coach can dream.
