I'm definitely on the muscle/power side of gymnastics. I'm level 9, and I've always struggled with leaps. I have good static flexibility, I have right over, center overs and left split.
However when I do leaps, they aren't very good. My switch leaps are still under 180* (also I can't straighten my back leg for my life).
So what's the key to getting good leaps? Do I need more active flexibility? If so, what kind of drills would help that?

I posted this in another thread last week.

You can hang on a (top) bar and lift legs into split positions dynamically to build strength in the correct muscles. Also lots of trampoline split jumps (with straight legs). Technique is also a factor to account for. Here is another drill that I came across today (after it been recommended on here last week). Specifically for maintaining straight legs throughout.

My daughter is struggling to get that back leg up in leaps as well... will have to check out those drills to see if they help her! Thanks!
