I need help with my level 9 gymnast. Im teaching her a backhandspring layout stepout on balance beam. Are there any good drills besides having her tumble up onto a panal mat? I need some advice on this one. She has her back tuck on high beam..help please:)

tumbling up is good. Also, she should 1st get the skill out of a hs step in (on the floor & on the beam)....that way she will HAVE to use both legs to push & go up & over rather than use the power of the BHS. I also have the girls do 3 or 4 backwalkovers on the floor on their bad side in between every 5 or 6 flight series. It doesnt matter how "pretty" the bad side bwo is... that flight series will get the girls VERY strong on their good side of their back, and you need to make sure both sides are strong & balanced. the bad side bwo will help and help w/ not having back problems.

I also teach this skill arching back over a barrel, so they understand where their shoulders should go on the set and how early they need to split.
